Gerald Cleaver & Violet Hour

December 18, 2009 § 1 Comment

Friday and Saturday night Drummer-composer Gerald Cleaver leads a special two-tenor version of Violet Hour as they play new music and selections from their latest Fresh Sound New Talent release, “Gerald Cleaver’s Detroit”. This music is inspired by the soulful power and grandeur of The American Industrial City, where Cleaver was born and raised. Cleaver’s  2001 recording “Adjust” (Fresh Sound New Talent) was a Best Debut Recording nominee by the Jazz Journalists Association. This version of VH features Wayne Escoffery on tenor saxophone on Friday, and JD Allen playing tenor saxophone Saturday. 9 & 10:30pm both nights. Cover’s just $10.
