New Music propagators extraordinaires Composers Collaborative Inc. bring to the Cafe the latest installment of their monthly Serial Underground event. Serial Underground showcases brand-spanking multidisciplinary works by writers, composers and performers of all trades. Tonight’s show begins with solo pianist Jenny Lin, recognized by David Hurwitz of ClassicsToday for her “intelligence, technique, imagination, curiosity, expressive intensity, and a willingness to take risks.” She’s followed by Word-Beat, composed of singer-actor Charles Williams and global-jazz percussionist Tom Teasly, a spoken-word-and-Jazz duo said by Mike Joyce of the Washington Post to “transcend form and culture, radiating a universal power and hope.” Show’s tonight at 8:30 and costs just $10 for students, $15 for the citizenry at large.

Wednesday at 6pm finds the George Wallace Poetry Explosion detonating downstairs. George Wallace, poet-MC, brings us fellow wordsmiths Martha Arboleda, Karen Blomain and Andrew Kaufman, followed by a spirited open-mic for the vets and the n00bs both. Cover’s just $7.

We leave you with a lovely sampling of Jenny Lin at the piano to whet your appetite:
